Dear Parents,
After an unforgettable Shabbat in the gorgeous hills of Northern Israel, we journeyed down to Jerusalem. We stepped back in history, experiencing what it was like to live in Biblical times, riding donkeys and making our own pita breads! The next day was a powerful one. We paid our respects at the Har Herzl national cemetery and walked directly to Yad Vashem, the most famous holocaust museum in the world. We topped off the day with a course on Israel advocacy, learning how to represent our beloved country while back home in America.
Monday night was the one we had all been waiting for though, as we finally got to spend time at our beloved Kotel, the Western Wall. As you can imagine, it was a day of intense emotion, as for many it was their first time seeing the Kotel.
On Tuesday, we continued our exploration of Jerusalem’s old city, diving down into an underground water hike through Chizkiyahu’s aqueduct. We topped off the day in Ben Yehuda, Jerusalem’s central restaurant district.
Wednesday was one to remember. We danced and sang our way through Yom NCSY, a concert uniting all NCSY Israel programs, with over 2,600 in attendance. Thursday gave us the chance to tour Tel Aviv and the nearby vicinity. We began the day with “Invitation to Silence”, a museum created to introduce visitors to the life experience of the deaf community. On Thursday we travelled to the Shuk Hakarmel market, and somehow even managed to pack in a tour of the local grafitti art of Tel Aviv.
In the evening we said our goodbyes for the free weekend, as we dropped off all our TJJers at their respective families and friends. We look forward to seeing everyone on Sunday for the next week of TJJ! We love Israel!
